On January 19, 2012, the BC Innovation Council (BCIC) announced a special opportunity for BC science students.  BCIC is providing support for 200 students to enjoy one year of membership in the prestigious American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) along with free passes to attend the full conference February 16-20, 2012, at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

These BC AAAS Student Scholarships will be distributed on an equitable, first-come, first-served basis.  Eligibility is restricted to students who are in school in British Columbia during the first quarter of 2012; preference will be given to high-school students.

Up to 20 adult chaperones will also receive complimentary access to the conference to accompany and/or supervise students.  Chaperones should also register using the link below and indicate which students they will accompany.

The TRIUMF-BCIC team will follow up to confirm registrations every 2-3 days; the team will need to confirm student status and accuracy of address and contact information.  It is expected that these 200 spots will fill quickly.

The full program of the AAAS meeting is best described online.  We call your attention to the Family Science Day activities on Saturday and Sunday as well as the evening plenary lectures.  See here for other exciting opportunities.

By registering to be a BC AAAS Student Scholar, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions of membership in the AAAS.  It is the intention that most student scholars will also make a good-faith effort to attend at least part of the AAAS 2012 conference although we recognize that this won't work for all people.

BCIC and TRIUMF are partnering on this opportunity with support from AAPS, Inc.
