Overview

Since its inception as the ‘TRI-University Meson Facility’ in 1968 (comprising the University of British Columbia, the University of Victoria, and Simon Fraser University), TRIUMF has expanded its network and scope to become a national-level institution, convening institutional partners and networks of researchers from coast-to-coast.

TRIUMF provides world-leading infrastructure for Canadian university researchers to investigate fundamental forces, explore beyond-Standard Model physics, innovate on accelerator-produced isotopes for diagnosing and treating diseases like cancer, and more, with over 80% of all subatomic physics research in Canada occurring at the lab or involving TRIUMF in some way.

Leveraging our infrastructure and network, research communities at TRIUMF and embedded at Canadian institutions provide training and work-integrated learning, empowering post-secondary students and early-career researchers with the knowledge and experience to grow their careers and advance world-leading science and innovation.
