Prof. Doug Gingrich’s research focuses on experimental high-energy particle physics using the ATLAS detector at the CERN laboratory in Geneva. Areas of interests include phenomenology and searches for quantum gravity and superstring theory, including theoretical gravity.
Gingrich’s activities include searches for semiclassical black holes, quantum black holes, and other strong-gravity phenomena in higher dimensions. This ranges from model building and writing event generation software to detailed search in ATLAS data. Phenomenological developments include highly-excited string states and string resonance, and noncommutative geometries. Recent interests include calculations of black hole radiation in effective quantum gravity models. Gingrich also responsibilities and interests within the technical areas of Monte Carlo simulated sample production and grid computing.
