Makoto Fujiwara

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Makoto Fujiwara received his PhD from the University of British Columbia, conducting research on muon physics at TRIUMF. He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Tokyo, CERN, and RIKEN. Since 2004, he has been a Research Scientist at TRIUMF, where he has also served as Head of the Particle Physics Department and Deputy Associate Laboratory Director. 

Fujiwara has been involved in antihydrogen research since the inception of CERN’s Antiproton Decelerator facility in 1999 and co-founded the ALPHA antihydrogen collaboration in 2005. A Fellow of the American Physical Society, his work has been recognized with several awards, including the Outstanding Young Scientist in Nuclear Physics (Japan), the John Dawson Award (American Physical Society), and the NSERC John C. Polanyi Award (Canada).
