The Global Particle Physics Photowalk is an event held around the world with many particle physics facilities participating. This years’ event included 5 different laboratories: STFC (UK), INFN (Italy), Brookhaven (USA), Fermilab (USA), and TRIUMF (Canada). On September 18th TRIUMF brought 13 amateur, semi-professional, and professional photographers on site to take photographs of the unique environment only offered by a physics laboratory. During their afternoon at TRIUMF, the photographers were able to spend time at the main control room, in the Meson Hall, which is the building where the cyclotron is housed, as well as in the ISAC-I and ISAC-II experimental areas. They drew inspiration from the scientific environment and created artistic pieces. Each photographer submitted their best 20 photos, which were entered into 3 categories. The Peoples’ Choice winner was chosen via a Facebook contest, the Critics’ Choice winner was decided by a panel of qualified professionals, and the Scientists’ Choice was voted upon by TRIUMF staff. For the global component of the contest, the top 10 photos from each country will be judged by a global Peoples’ Choice vote, as well as an international panel of judges, one member being nominated by each participating country. The result will be 2 winning photos. These winners will be displayed at each physics lab, as well as in an international exhibit in Helsinki at the World Conference of Science Journalists.
