The 3rd annual Canada-America-Mexico Graduate Student Physics Conference (CAM2007) was held from August 8 to 11 at McGill University in Montreal. The inaugural conference (CAM2003) was organized and hosted by Mexico in Merida. The United States hosted CAM2005 in San Diego.
CAM2007 attracted 125 students from all three countries. The participants were able to familiarize themselves with recent findings in the various subfields of physics and hear first hand the concerns that physicists encounter in the early stages of their careers. The Conference promoted international collaborations among the three countries at the same time that it allowed students to develop an appreciation of the experiences of graduate students from other countries and from across their own.
TRIUMF was one of the contributing sponsors of the Conference and provided support for the web site and technical assistance in managing the electronic payment system. Of the seven invited speakers, Dr. Jens Dilling represented TRIUMF at the round table discussions which introduced local and international students to the research and work carried out at the lab. Three TRIUMF students - Katie Gagnon, Anthony Hillairet, and Jean-Philippe Lavoie - also attended.
CAM2007 was a thorough success and everyone is looking forward to CAM2009, hosted once again by Mexico.
