Beginning at 10 a.m. this Saturday, November 29, TRIUMF is holding the second installment of its Saturday Morning Physics Lecture Series 2008-2009. The series, which is a joint creation of TRIUMF and UBC's Department of Physics and Astronomy, aims to make quantum physics and chemistry accessible to high school students.
The first lectures of the series took place on October 25, covered the topics of classical wave motion as well as the physics of music. The auditorium was packed full with over 100 students and community members attending. The second set of lectures consists of “Failures of classical physics and the birth of quantum physics” by Mark Van Raamsdonk and “Lasers and their applications” by Kirk Madison. The lectures will last from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Attending the lectures is free, but, due to limited space, registration is required beforehand, so make sure to register soon! High school students as well as the general public are welcome to attend. Additional information about the series and registration is available here.
